Vir Chakra Abhinandan Varthaman: Pakistan insults brave IAF pilot, says gallantry award based on ‘farcical story’

Pakistan refuted the truth of Wing Commander (now Group Captain) Varthaman Abhinandan bringing down their F-16 fighter jet that had intruded Indian airspace on 27 February 2019, calling the citation a “farcical story”.

New Delhi/Islamabad: The propaganda machinery in Pakistan is working overtime to insult India’s clinical decimation of their cross-border terror activities and state-sponsored threat to India’s sovereignty.

In the latest instance of India’s arch rivals spreading lies against us, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Pakistan on Tuesday mocked the gallantry award bestowed upon Wing Commander (now Group Captain) Abhinandan Varthaman by President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday.

Varthaman, who brought down an enemy fighter jet during an aerial combat with Pakistan on 27 February 2019, was conferred with the Vir Chakra by President Kovind for displaying “exceptional sense of duty” in the dogfight.

However, sinister Pakistan yet again refuted the story and called Varthaman’s citation a “farcical story”.

“Pakistan categorically rejects the entirely baseless Indian claims that a Pakistani F-16 aircraft was shot down by an Indian pilot before he was captured by Pakistan in Azad Jammu and Kashmir in February 2019. The citation of the award to the downed Indian pilot is a classic case of Indian fabrications and pure fantasy to appease domestic audience and hide the embarrassment,” the Pakistan MFA said in an official release.

Varthaman shot down the Pakistani F-16 aircraft before his MiG-21 Bison jet was hit by an enemy missile. The air combat was Pakistan’s retaliation against India’s surgical strikes in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir’s Balakot a day back in response to the dastardly Pulwama attack carried out by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists.

Vir Chakra is India’s third-highest wartime gallantry award after Param Vir Chakra and Maha Vir Chakra.

“India’s insistence on propagating a lie that has been thoroughly exposed is ludicrous and nonsensical. Granting military honours for imaginary feats of gallantry is contrary to every norm of military conduct. By giving such award, also as an after-thought, India has only made a mockery of itself. It is obvious that India’s farcical story has no credibility whatsoever before the international community,” Pakistan said in its vicious statement.
